United Way Success By 6 is a national community-based movement of public and private partners that work together to deliver proven solutions that ensure all children ages zero to six are healthy, nurtured and ready to succeed. In more than 350 cities throughout the United States and Canada, United Way Success By 6 is creating effective community-based solutions that contribute to the positive quality of life for young children.

Background On United Way Success By 6

United Way Success By 6 began at the Twin Cities United Way in 1988 through a collaborative effort of the mayor, the Chief Executive Officer of Honeywell Corporation, the Superintendent of Schools and the Chief Professional Officer of United Way of Minneapolis Area. Today, United Way Success By 6 has deep roots, with hundreds of initiatives across the United States and Canada. These efforts improve the lives of children and their families by addressing system barriers, enhancing research-based strategies and mobilizing the community.

The United Way Success By 6 initiative is based on long-term research on brain development, quality childcare and early intervention. According to medical and scientific research, the experiences of young children in the first six years have a lasting impact on later success in school and life. This research provides the rationale for United Way Success By 6 and propels communities in their efforts to mobilize young children and families.
